How to get rid of cellulite naturally, fast and safely?

What causes cellulite?

Firstly it is probably best to dispel some notions as to what cellulite actually is. By answering this question you will probably get a better understanding of what actually causes cellulite in any case, so we can tackle two birds with one stone. Cellulite is basically the result of misaligned fat cells in the skin.

In certain parts of the body fat is arranged in vertical column like structures, namely those in the thighs and arms, but really cellulite can appear almost anywhere. This vertical arrangement of fat cells is really only evident in women, and it is for this reason that women generally exhibit much more cellulite than men.

Men’s fat cells are arranged in a more net like construction, and so are more resilient and generally hold up to fat gain a little better than women.

As more fat is accumulated in these fat columns, the fat itself causes the connective tissue to bulge around the fat cells. This causes a pull action to occur on the connective tissue surrounding the fat cells, and the combination of the bulging of the fat cells and the contraction of the connective tissue causes the dimpled, bumpy effect known as cellulite.

Some women seem to be more predisposed than others when it comes to actually getting cellulite, and there are studies which suggest that there is a genetic component which accounts for this. Some women can be physically slim, fit and toned yet still have cellulite, while other women can be overweight and not have any cellulite at all.

Unfortunately, cellulite is also more evident in older women, and this is because the connective tissue which surrounds fat cells ages and loses its elasticity and gets stiffer.  Cellulite is also caused by hormonal factors, particularly those which occur pre and post pregnancy.

Pregnancy causes much of the body, such as the stomach to expand and stretch to accommodate babies, and it takes time for the body to recover from this. Overall, any decrease in the flexibility and elasticity of connective tissue means there is a high chance that cellulite will appear at some point.

How to decrease and beat cellulite

So how do we actually beat off cellulite and recover from having had it in the first place. Although fat shouldn’t be considered the prime suspect when it comes to the cause of cellulite, decreasing overall body fat percentages is definitely an effective technique in decreasing cellulite all over the body.

Exercise, however, is probably your best bet at tightening up cellulite prone areas by building and toning underlying muscles, filling up “empty” spaces in the skin.

Diet is also a key component of a cellulite free body and studies have shown that there is little to know evidence of cellulite even having occurred in our paleo, cave dwelling ancestors. It’s important to understand that even if you aren’t overweight, you aren’t automatically healthy.

Cellulite is also removed more readily by those who do frequent movement orientated exercise which promote circulation and lymphatic (think fat cleansing) drainage. Yoga, pilates and tai chi are great examples of effective ways of combating the occurrence of cellulite.

There is also evidence that acupuncture can help treat cellulite issues, and I suspect that this is due to the increase in circulation to the treated areas.

Perhaps the best way of taking action against cellulite is to combine healthy diet (a Paleo style diet will work wonders), exercise which enhances circulation and supplementing with essential nutrients such as essential fatty acids (omega 3’s).

Ultimately, cellulite is not a quick fix, but by improving your diet, exercise and overall lifestyle the positive effects over and above “merely” getting rid of cellulite is probably of more value. It’s also worth mentioning that cellulite isn’t actually unhealthy, but excessive body fat is, and should be treated as a high priority.

Body fat is a relatively simple problem to beat, but it takes time for something like cellulite to be improved. At the end of the day, even if cellulite doesn’t decrease, by following something like Paleo you will be much healthier, and have much more energy then before.
